Echoes of the Wall

Animation / Sound Design
2025

Echoes of the Wall is a reactive sound piece conceived and directed by Daniel Oviedo, built from field recordings captured at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin, a space once divided by the Berlin Wall and now transformed into a symbol of connection and renewal.
Daniel recorded, selected, and transformed the sounds of footsteps, voices, trams, wind, and distant echoes, shaping them into a guided listening experience that contrasts what once was with what now exists. Through intentional sound direction, layering, and processing in Ableton Live, the piece constructs an invisible dialogue between past and present, silence and movement, absence and life.
To deepen the emotional impact of the work, Daniel designed a reactive audiovisual system in TouchDesigner, where visual elements respond in real time to the sound. This integration allows image and audio to evolve together, amplifying the emotional resonance and drawing the audience into a more immersive, embodied experience.
Rather than recreating history, Echoes of the Wall directs the viewer and listener through memory itself, revealing how a place continues to speak long after its physical barriers have disappeared. The wall may be gone, but its resonance remains, not as a division, but as a reminder of transformation, unity, and time’s ability to heal.
Sound recording, composition, audiovisual direction, and reactive system design by Daniel Oviedo.
Created using Ableton Live and TouchDesigner.
